Arts and Crafts
Arts and crafts describes a wide variety of activities involving making things with one's own hands. Arts and crafts is usually a hobby. Some crafts (art skills) have been practised since preshistoric times, others are more recent inventions. William Morris, John Ruskin and others promoted an "arts and crafts" movement in the late 19th century, which popularized the phrase. Both children and adults enjoy arts and crafts. Children in schools may learn skills such as woodworking, wood carving, sewing, or making things with all sorts of material. Many community centres and schools have evening or day classes and workshops where one can learn arts and craft skills.
"Creativity is allowing oneself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep."
- Scot Adams, The Dilbert Principle
"Beginning with audacity is a very great part of the art of painting."
- Winston Churchill.
"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you havenít found it yet, keep looking. Donít settle. As with all matters of the heart, youíll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Donít settle."
- Steve Jobs, Stanford commencement speech 2005
